This dragon features a unique design and playful personality, and learning to Draw Toothlessly is a great way to display your passion for this consistency! This is a must-see if you are one of the many fans!
How to Draw Toothless
Step 1
We’ll start with this guide on how to draw Toothless from his head. Its head is fairly round and thin and has large, thin ears stretching back.
Then a few small spikes pop out from the top and sides of its head. Finish with the eyes near the front of his face, and then we can continue!
Step 2
Continuing with this toothless design, we will add the beginning of his back. It has a series of large rounded tips on its back, and you can draw them with curved lines.
So use some more curved lines for the base of his wings, which we will draw in the next steps of this guide!
Step 3
This character has relatively small wings, and we will draw them in this phase of our focus on how to draw Toothless.
These connect to the parts of the wings you started in the previous step and also right on his back. The wings are small and fairly rounded, with curved line detail extending into the wings.
Step 4
Now, in this tutorial step, we’re going to draw some legs for this toothless design! His legs are thick at the ends and slightly thinner near the bases. It also has sharp claws on the ends of each foot.
Also, the hind legs are slightly thinner than the front legs. After drawing his legs, let’s also draw other fins near the back of his body where his tail will extend. Speaking of the tail, we’ll draw it in the next step of the tutorial!
Step 5
This step of our guide on how to draw Toothless focuses on the beginning of the queue. The tail is quite long, thick, and winding. It should look a bit like a large lizard’s tail and have small irregular spikes running through it.
It also gets thicker at the base and thinner as you go to the top. Now that most of the tail is drawn, we’ll finish it with some finishing touches in the next step of the guide!
Step 6
It’s almost time to colorize this image in the final stages of this Toothless drawing, but we’ll finish the final outlines first. Once you’re done with all those details, let’s also look at ways you can add extra personal touches and details to the image!
First, we finish his cock. As you can see in the reference image, large flat fins extend to the sides of its tail. Each of these fins has sharp spines extending into them.
Once you’ve drawn them, it’s time to add your finishing touches! Adding a background is always a good idea; by doing so, you can show off your favorite scene or movie set. You could create a unique environment and add other movie characters to top it off.
Step 7
One of the standout features of Toothless’ design is that it is colored in a black color scheme with light green eyes.
We will color the picture in this step of our Toothless Drawing guide! Even if you want to keep the screen’s exact color scheme, there are still ways to make it more dynamic!
By using lighter tones, you can create some definitions for the different parts of her body. Our reference image shows you how! You can also create a unique character variation by playing with different colors and artistic means!
3 More Tips to Make Toothless Drawing Easier!
Sink your teeth into these tips to make toothless sketching even easier!
Tip #1
This toothless drawing is very detailed and looks cool as it recreates the movie’s look. While it may sound awesome, it can make drawing this famous dragon much more difficult.
There are a few ways you can simplify it. One would be to omit some interior details, which are quite difficult to draw. Once you’ve colored it later, those details won’t be that noticeable. So fighting them is pointless if you can’t see most of these details.
Tip #2
You can also change Toothless’ design to make it more cartoonish if you find it easier. Dragons may not be real, but there are some animals that they resemble. You could use some real animals to make this toothless design much easier.
The best place to start would be with lizards and crocodiles. Try looking at the structure of these animals’ bodies and see how you can translate them into your toothless design. You may also find images of other dragons and poses Toothless himself was in to simplify the design.
Tip #3
These can also help you if you want to draw Toothless in other poses and scenarios. If you’re still struggling to create this toothless sketch, you can make it easier by preparing the drawing a little better with a pencil.
It has a wavy body, so you could start by drawing a wavy line to guide its body shape. He then uses the pencil to draw basic shapes that make up the proportions of his body.
Once you have these basic shapes, you can add more details and elements to the design until Toothless looks like our mission statement.
